CJ Marple, a 3rd grade teacher in Kansas, created a Twitter project to teach his students about the power of social media and information spread. He tweeted about his lesson, expecting engagement from his local community, but instead, it went viral with over a million engagements, including retweets from celebrities and responses from across the world. To help him visualize the data, Twitter used CARTO to create an animated map that showed the location of retweets, mapping out the spread of information in real-time. The map provided CJ's students with a valuable teaching tool, allowing them to see how their message had spread globally and when it happened, providing a complete view of the pattern of retweets using a histogram. This project demonstrated the power of visualizing location data to understand the world around us and our interactions with systems every day.
