The Seattle Poetic Grid is an interdisciplinary project that maps the sounds of community within a smart city, tracing the city in the voices of its citizens to hear the personal map[s] of the place we inhabit. The interactive data visualization was created by Claudia Castro Luna, a Civic Poet, and Gregory T. Woolston, a cartographer and architecture graduate student, who used CARTO's Location Intelligence platform to bring their vision to life. The project aims to convey an immediate sense of place through poems placed on a map in specific locations meaningful to the writers, showcasing multiple voices and experiences. The interactive features of the map enable temporal equality among all the voices represented, allowing viewers to explore each other's feelings and concerns, with the hope that it inspires similar projects in other cities.
