BBVA is using anonymized credit card data to better understand city-wide behavior by creating a network of connections between different areas of the city, identifying functional areas through spatial analysis and clustering, and describing communities through common attributes. This project aims to provide a new way of dividing cities into manageable parts, allowing for more accurate urban management of public and private services, as well as insights for businesses and governments. By analyzing credit card transactions, BBVA has created an interactive tool called Urban Discovery that enables users to select specific attributes and visualize community characteristics, with potential applications in citizen services, IoT, fleet routing and tracking, retail, and site planning.
