Metrics dashboards: Do they divide or unite?
Metrics dashboards can have unintended consequences if not implemented thoughtfully and strategically. A rollout of OKRs, for example, can divide teams if leadership presents a one-size-fits-all approach without providing opportunities for questions or education. In contrast, a successful rollout requires meeting with team leads to develop initial OKRs, receiving feedback, and sharing them with the rest of the organization. Similarly, DORA metrics can be divisive if implemented without proper planning, such as setting up dashboards without explaining their definitions or using them in performance reviews. However, when introduced thoughtfully, teams can unite around these metrics, leading to improved software delivery performance and increased efficiency.
