What’s A Data Mart?
A Data Mart is a smaller, business-specific subset of a larger data warehouse. It stores structured data from particular sources and enables reporting and business intelligence by making specific data for a certain business unit or function quickly and easily accessible. Businesses use Data Marts to provide simplified access to specific categories of data, allowing users to evaluate and produce reports more quickly. There are three types of Data Marts: dependent, independent, and hybrid. They possess different characteristics such as subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant, and non-volatile. The architecture of a Data Mart can be designed using the bottom-up, top-down, or federated approach. While Data Marts are smaller and more focused on specific business functions, data warehouses store all enterprise data for an organization.
