Zero Trust — Not a Buzzword
The adoption of Zero Trust security framework has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as businesses worldwide have shifted to remote work. A survey conducted in five countries - Australia, India, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore - found that 54% of organizations reported an increase in security incidents in 2021 compared to the previous year. The Zero Trust model focuses on not distinguishing between external and internal access environments and never trusting users or roles. It provides visibility into what is being accessed and applies controls based on behavioral analysis. Key drivers for adopting Zero Trust include increased remote work, security breaches, and a need to improve user experience. However, challenges in implementing Zero Trust include lack of funding, complexity of access technologies, and shortage of IT and security staff.
