Summary

We're now years into this great experiment in remote work, which has led to a Zoom-like culture where our work lives are lived on camera all day, every day. It's time for people to take a break and not feel obligated to be "on" all the time. Face-muting, or turning off one's camera, is perfectly acceptable and sometimes necessary in certain situations such as eating during calls, multitasking, or when feeling unprepared. Encouraging attendees to show their faces can benefit from implementing strategies like sharing agendas ahead of time, keeping meetings concise, asking engaging questions, and using breakout rooms for discussions. By doing so, we can decrease the burden of being camera-on all the time and make remote work more sustainable.
