The COVID-19 vaccine production is ramping up globally, but distribution challenges remain. To address this, the City of San Francisco launched a digital vaccine standby list for its residents, utilizing SMS messaging powered by Twilio, which enables residents to get notified on their preferred channel as soon as they are eligible to schedule their first vaccine appointment. This app allows health agencies to directly engage with their residents and prioritize them based on demographic information and state guidelines. A new Quick Deploy App has been made available for public health agencies to create a proof-of-concept of a COVID-19 vaccine standby list program, which can be deployed with zero coding required. The app uses SMS as a valuable channel for registering and notifying residents about vaccine eligibility, helping to cross the digital divide and make vaccinations accessible to more people.
