Twilio's Black History Month celebration highlighted the importance of recognizing challenges faced by the Black community in tech, while also uplifting their contributions. The company's employee resource group organized various programs to commemorate important events and celebrate people of color in American history. Four Black Twilions were featured, sharing their journeys and experiences as part of an underrepresented group in tech, including Kaelyn Chresfield, Shawn Oates, Satang Jow, and Aliyah Edwards. They discussed the significance of being Black in tech, the importance of inclusion and diversity, and the value of embracing one's identity and experiences. The celebration also included a new book titled "Black Joy: Stories of Resistance, Resilience, and Restoration," which celebrates the redemptive strength of Black Joy and its integral part in mental health. The featured individuals shared their most joyful career moments and offered advice to others who are People of Color in tech or want to break into the industry. Their stories showcase remarkable innovation happening in tech and highlight the importance of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
