The tech industry and open source community are predominantly male-dominated, with a significant gender gap in participation and leadership. Women face various barriers to entry, including intimidation from criticism, lack of mentorship, and difficulty finding their place within the community. However, women who contribute to open source projects often share advice on how to overcome these challenges, such as seeking out female role models, building relationships with other women developers, and maintaining a sense of belonging in STEM fields. To increase diversity in open source contributions, it is essential to make it easier for women to get started, provide inclusive communities, and promote connections between women developers.
