Hacktoberfest is a global event that encourages open source contributions. It has grown from a small group of contributors in 2014 to a truly global event with participants representing 194 countries last year. The event kicks off in September and runs through October, offering various ways for individuals to contribute, such as sharing an open source project, contributing technical code, or mentoring others. In its tenth year, Hacktoberfest is making changes to ensure sustainability, including moving away from physical t-shirt rewards to a digital reward kit in partnership with Holopin. The event also partners with Major League Hacking for Global Hack Week, offering workshops and sessions on open source contributions. Participants can share their experience through photos, videos, blog posts, or social media using the official hashtag #hacktoberfest10.
