Luca Salvatore at DigitalOcean has shared the company's new datacenter design in Frankfurt, which utilizes a Clos topology for its highly scalable and redundant network. The design features spine and leaf switches, allowing for huge amounts of bandwidth and providing a high level of redundancy. The network is designed to scale out horizontally by adding more racks and spine switches, but also faces challenges such as limited switch capacity, particularly in the core network where ARP entries are stored. To overcome this, the company has introduced zones with their own set of core switches, allowing for easier scalability. This new design will be used in all future datacenters, including FRA1, NYC1, and NYC3, which have already been deployed, and will enable the DigitalOcean network to continue scaling and serving customers for many years to come.
