Block Storage is now live at DigitalOcean, allowing developers to add additional disk space to their Droplets. The new service is designed to be simple and intuitive, with a pricing model based on capacity only. Block Storage stores data on separate hardware, replicated multiple times across different racks, reducing the risk of data loss in case of hardware failure. Users can scale up and resize volumes from 1GB to 16TB, and move them between Droplets via the control panel or API. Data is encrypted at rest and transmitted over isolated networks. The service is currently available in NYC1 and SFO2 regions, with FRA1 expected to follow soon. Users will see a new Volumes tab in their dashboard, allowing easy management of their volumes. Automated provisioning options are also available using the volumes API or doctl command-line client.
