NetFlow is a network protocol that provides key traffic flow data such as origin, direction, and overall volume. It allows network administrators to gain deeper understanding of traffic flows utilizing bandwidth and identify bottlenecks which can lead to degraded performance and hinder end-user experience. Datadog now offers NetFlow monitoring through its Network Device Monitoring (NDM) view, providing visibility into devices' NetFlow data directly within the platform. This feature enables users to identify top contributors to network traffic, investigate if network resources are properly utilized, and understand which applications are using available bandwidth. With this information, administrators can mitigate bandwidth congestion and optimize their networks.
