Ivo Dimitrov, one of Datadog's Engineering VPs, has over 30 years of experience in software engineering. He started his career as an individual contributor, developing high-performance system software and writing in C and C++. After 10 years of hands-on development, he transitioned to management, leading teams at Microsoft and LinkedIn. At Datadog, he is responsible for the Distributed Data Systems organization, which comprises storage technologies such as Metrics, Events, Driveline, Cross-Platform Queries, Alerts, and Data Analytics. Ivo's day-to-day involves attracting and retaining talent, staying current with technology, and contributing to the design and planning of their storage, search, and query execution platforms. He emphasizes the importance of collaboration between product teams and his own team, as well as maintaining a balance between innovation and process. The engineering culture at Datadog is characterized by a humble, grassroots approach, where taking intelligent risks is encouraged with minimal oversight from the top. Ivo's goal is to help Datadog scale its platforms to meet growing revenue demands while maintaining a focus on technical excellence.
