Apple is updating its Push Notification service (APNs) certificates to use the USERTrust RSA Certification Authority (SHA-2 Root). To keep push notifications working, users must update their server’s Trust Store to include the new certificate authority. Both old and new certificates should remain trusted during the transition. The changes will be implemented for `node-apn` and similar packages after January 20. Courier has already updated its system and does not require any additional work from developers. Users who are not using Courier can update their systems by obtaining the new certificate and following specific steps, including copying the certificate to the correct directory and rehashing it. Skipping these updates may cause issues with push notifications. By preparing now, users can ensure a seamless experience for their app’s notifications in 2025.
