The Pi Project is an ambitious art installation that connects the world through art, launched on March 14th, 2017, to be the largest in the world with over 250 individual sculptures across 5 continents. The brainchild of visual artists Chris Klapper and Patrick Gallagher, it explores mathematical concepts through sculpture, data visualization, mathematics, and new media. Each digit of Pi is cast as a white gypsum cement sculpture, representing its place within the sequence, and collectors from around the world join the community by receiving their digit alongside a certificate of authenticity. The installation grows annually with new sculptures and digits added, intertwined individuals across the globe, represented on an interactive map that uses spatial analytics to properly represent project data.
