Aiven has introduced multi-version support for new connectors in its Apache Kafka Connect framework, allowing users to pin specific connector versions to their Kafka Connect instance. This feature provides increased flexibility and control when using and updating Apache Kafka Connect, enabling users to test and revert connector changes easily. With this update, users can simplify the running of their software platform by minimizing the number of changes made at any one time to incrementally change business-critical data flows. The functionality is available for all Aiven customers on certain connectors, including Debezium, JDBC, and Snowflake, and can be applied via the Aiven API and Terraform. This move aims to simplify the operational burden of updating connector versions and reduce the risk of downstream data issues, particularly in distributed engineering functions where individual teams are responsible for updating connector versions.
