A study found that 92-95% of adults worldwide have better computer skills than the average person. However, software quality has not improved in parallel with advancements in technology. Software developers and end-users alike feel this decline in trust for software and technology. The reasons behind this issue are complex and multifaceted, including the inherent complexity of building software, the constant change in tools and platforms, and the increasing demands on developers to balance speed and quality. Additionally, many modern technology systems run on decades-old technology, which can lead to unintentional breakages that could have been predicted. To improve software quality, an industry-wide framework shift is needed, emphasizing the importance of both internal and external quality in building high-quality software.
