Reflections on Black History Month at LaunchDarkly
Black History Month is celebrated annually in February to recognize and honor the achievements of African Americans and their central role in US history. Carter Godwin Woodson first established Negro History Week in 1926, which was later expanded into Black History Month by President Gerald Ford in 1976. LaunchDarkly has organized a series of events during February to celebrate black history, including donating and volunteering for the Bay Area-based organization Black Girls Code, sharing internal doses of black historical facts and figures, hosting weekly giveaways of tech-focused books written by black authors, and showcasing movies highlighting struggles and accomplishments throughout black history. The company's efforts aim to raise awareness about racial disparities in the culture and inspire future generations to make a difference in their respective industries.
