Rich, complex rules for advanced load balancing
Load balancing is a functionality that has been around for 30 years and helps businesses leverage their existing infrastructure resources by steering traffic away from unhealthy origin servers and distributing traffic load based on different algorithms. Today, customers look for easy-to-use load balancers with quick propagation of changes and feature flexibility to meet the unique needs of different businesses. Cloudflare has introduced custom rules for its Load Balancing solution, allowing users to create complex, custom rules to direct traffic. This provides more granular control over traffic steering and origin selection decisions, catering to various use cases such as high-volume transactions for ecommerce or load balancing across multiple DNS vendors to support privacy and security. The new feature is built on top of the open-source wirefilter execution engine, which also powers Firewall Rules.
