The Story Behind Warp's AI Command Search

What's this blog post about?

In April 2022, Warp launched AI Command Search, a feature that allows users to type natural language search into the terminal and get back a command generated by artificial intelligence. The idea for this feature came from Github Copilot's support for shell commands. An initial prototype was built in October 2021 but sat on the shelf until December when it received positive feedback from an engineer at Warp. After several iterations, bug fixes and dogfooding, AI Command Search was officially released as part of Warp's beta launch in April 2022. The feature has not existed within a terminal before and is considered unique.
