Streaming Calls to a Browser with Voice WebSockets

What's this blog post about?

We've developed a new feature for our Voice API that enables real-time streaming of conference call audio to web browsers, using Web Audio APIs. This allows for "listen-only" mode in large-scale calls where most participants are passive listeners. The new WebSocket support simplifies server-to-server communication between the Vonage Voice API and speech AI platforms like IBM Watson or Amazon Alexa. Our demo at AWS ReInvent showcases this feature by streaming the audio of a conference call to web browsers, playing it back with Web Audio APIs. This technology opens up possibilities for integrating voice with web applications, such as reducing costs and improving efficiency in large company calls. The WebSocket API provides a low-latency, one-way audio stream that can be easily integrated into web clients.
