Companies building in the cloud face challenges in accurately metering usage data for billing, chargeback, and FinOps use cases due to lack of standardization across different cloud components. OpenMeter has introduced an open-source project based on Benthos to extract usage data from any cloud infrastructure or vendor. The solution simplifies the task of collecting, formatting, and forwarding usage data by reading data from various sources, enriching and converting it into CloudEvents format, and reliably sending it to OpenMeter. This is achieved through a flexible yet powerful architecture that supports reading data from multiple inputs, processing and transforming data using various tools, and sending the processed data to different outputs.
