한국 대표 트래블 테크 플랫폼 야놀자, 멀티 클라우드 혁신 위한 최적의 데이터베이스를 찾다
Travel tech platform, Yanolja, is seeking the optimal database for multi-cloud innovation. Yanolja, a leading travel industry player, has been revolutionizing the future of travel through its digital leap since starting as an online hotel booking service in South Korea back in 2007. Today, it provides diverse services such as accommodations, F&B, recreation, and advertising solutions across 206 countries worldwide. The key to providing top convenience and innovative services for today's smart travelers lies in database modernization. Recently, Yanolja's cloud technology strategy head, Kim Ji-hwan, shared their experience of adopting MongoDB Atlas at the MongoDB.local Seoul event. Yanolja is heavily leveraging the cloud for service expansion and has built a microservices architecture suitable for public cloud environments. It also manages its internal relational databases through direct DB engineering management. However, in a NoSQL environment, developers directly managing their respective services' databases faced challenges in standardizing operating policies, highlighting the need for more systematic NoSQL integration operation and management by professional engineers. Additionally, they needed a cloud-friendly database due to using multiple public clouds. Kim Ji-hwan explained that MongoDB Atlas was chosen after comparing various factors such as data models, scalability, availability, transactions, indexing, aggregation, operations, cost efficiency, and more. He said, "MongoDB's document model showed the best performance for complex queries and schemas in our environment." Furthermore, he praised MongoDB Atlas' support for ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability) transactions, time-series data, data pipelines, encryption, and robust third-party analytics and monitoring tools. Yanolja is currently migrating its existing NoSQL databases to MongoDB Atlas and aims to build an integrated operation and management system to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen incident response capabilities for stable customer service. Looking ahead, Yanolja plans to expand its collaboration with MongoDB into a multi-cloud environment as it advances towards becoming a global data business player.
