DataStax Proxy für DynamoDB und Apache Cassandra® – Vorschau

What's this blog post about?

Patrick McFadin from DataStax introduced a new open source tool at the ApacheCon event that allows developers to execute AWS DynamoDB® workloads in Apache Cassandra. The DataStax Proxy for DynamoDB and Cassandra enables developers to run DynamoDB workloads (on-premises, in hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud environments) while benefiting from the scalability advantages of Cassandra. Amazon DynamoDB is a key-value and document database that provides developers with elasticity and seamless use in the cloud due to its tight integration with AWS. However, this close integration poses challenges when customers want to use the database on-premises. Apache Cassandra has always supported key-value and tabular datasets, but DataStax customers previously needed to add a translation layer to their existing storage engine to process DynamoDB workloads. Today, a Proxy compatible with the DynamoDB SDK is introduced, requiring no code changes for existing applications to read and write data in DataStax Enterprise (DSE) or Cassandra. Additionally, users of DynamoDB benefit from the hybrid-cloud and multi-model capabilities as well as scalability offered by Cassandra. The Proxy's source code can be found on GitHub and DataStax Labs: https://github.com/datastax/dynamo-cassandra-proxy/.
