The future of tracing is open

What's this blog post about?

At Datadog, we are dedicated to open source software and promoting transparency in data collection. We support open standards like StatsD, OpenTracing, OpenCensus, and OpenMetrics, which improve system observability. We are pleased that OpenTracing and OpenCensus have merged into the OpenTelemetry project, a vendor-neutral initiative under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). This project aims to make robust telemetry a built-in feature of cloud-native software. Datadog is contributing our tracing libraries to the OpenTelemetry project to support auto-instrumentation across languages and frameworks. Auto-instrumentation allows comprehensive data collection without modifying code, providing insights into application performance and dependencies between services. Our commitment to open source enhances the value of instrumentation and code for both Datadog customers and the broader industry.
