The Old Datadog and the Sea

Wouter, originally from the Netherlands, shares his experience of upgrading his 37 ft Hunter Legend boat named Second Wind with NMEA 2000 technology for better sailing and safety. He connected all instruments onboard to gather data, added an AIS transponder for vessel visibility, installed a wind transducer for wind speed and angle information, and used a Raspberry Pi with Signal K server to collect and store the data. The data is then sent to Datadog for visualization and analysis. This upgrade has significantly improved safety and provided meaningful insights into sailing patterns and locations.
