When students go back to school mobile usage goes down
In September 2021, mobile traffic lost importance compared with desktop traffic globally, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere where about 87% of humans live. This trend is more evident in countries that start their school period at this time of year and also due to COVID lockdowns effects. Countries such as Poland, Malta, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Japan, US, Canada, China, Russia, Cyprus, and Nigeria experienced a decrease in mobile traffic percentage after the beginning of September when schools resumed. This shift is attributed to people going back to work or office hours, leading to an increase in desktop traffic.
