SVG support in Cloudflare Images
On September 21, 2022, it was announced that Cloudflare Images now supports SVG files. This feature aims to simplify image delivery by storing, resizing, optimizing, and serving images in a single pipeline. The support for SVG files is particularly beneficial as they are scalable vector graphics that can be resized without losing quality. However, SVG files have been known to pose security risks due to their ability to contain arbitrary JavaScript, fetch external content from other URLs, or embed HTML elements. To address these concerns, Cloudflare has developed a filter that removes scripting and hyperlinks to other documents, making SVG files as safe as JPEG or PNG images while preserving their vector graphics capabilities. The SVG format is complex with many features, and the company encourages users to report issues and contribute to the development of the filter.
