Regional Services comes to India, Japan and Australia

What's this blog post about?

In 2020, Cloudflare introduced its Data Localization Suite to address growing data localization requirements globally. The Regional Services feature allows customers to limit which data centers decrypt and inspect their traffic, catering to those affected by regional regulations or contractual agreements. This is achieved through anycast routing protocols that direct users to the closest Cloudflare data center. However, this approach does not guarantee traffic within a country will be serviced there due to network routing decisions made by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Regional Services solves this issue by making each data center aware of its region and forwarding encrypted TCP streams to data centers within the correct region for decryption and application of Layer 7 products. Currently, support is available in India, Japan, and Australia, with plans to expand to more regions soon.
