Cloudflare has introduced an Image Optimization Testing Tool to help website owners improve their page loading speed by optimizing images. The tool analyzes a website's URL and runs automated tests to identify possible improvements in delivering optimal images to visitors. Poorly optimized images can cause slow page loads, which negatively impact user experience and search engine rankings. Optimization techniques include ensuring appropriate image dimensions, using modern image formats like AVIF, adjusting quality settings, providing image markup with dimensions, implementing lazy-loading for images, and hosting all images on the same domain. The testing tool uses WebPageTest and Lighthouse to calculate Core Web Vitals and provides a detailed breakdown of each image's optimizations.
