Internet traffic patterns in Ukraine since February 21, 2022
Cloudflare's analysis of internet traffic in Ukraine reveals a significant decrease in overall request volumes since the invasion began, with Kyiv showing a gradual increase in internet usage after an initial drop. Other cities like Lviv and Uzhhorod have experienced increased internet traffic as people move westward to escape fighting. In contrast, Kharkiv has remained at roughly 50-60% of its usual rate since the invasion began. Some areas with intense fighting have experienced large drops in traffic or partial outages. Cyberattacks against Ukrainian domain names and networks have also increased, with layer 7 DDoS attacks being the largest. Social media usage has seen varied patterns, while messaging apps like Signal have experienced dramatic growth since the invasion began.
